What are eating disorders?

Eating disorders are manifested by obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours around food. Symptoms vary between patients and some may have a mix of symptoms.

Eating disorders are generally associated with people who have low self-esteem and feelings of self-loathing. They can often manifest themselves in high achieving individuals who have an obsessive desire to seek and achieve perfection. Treatment options for eating disorders

Residential rehab centre treatment for eating disorders

If a patient decides that residential treatment is the best option for them, then they can be assured of a high level of care.   All patients will be under the care of a GP and will receive the best medical care, which will often include an entire blood work review. Patients will also have a psychiatric consultation and clinical assessment. This ensures that the most effective treatment programme is constructed thus guaranteeing the best possible chance for recovery.  A nutritionist will work on a food plan to ensure that physical and nutritional needs are met. Patients will also undergo intensive therapeutic support, helping them to prepare for a life in recovery. We offer free advice to patients and their loved ones on the best options available, considering level of care, cost and area.

Residential secondary treatment for eating disorders

Secondary treatment or ‘half-way house’ is a ‘step-down’ from primary care.  Patients will usually have completed a period of primary care within a residential facility but will not yet be ready to return to the community.  Secondary care provides clients with a supported structure within which they can begin to learn new life skills. We can help you to identify if this is going to be something that is appropriate for you or your loved one.

Outpatient treatment for eating disorders

Outpatient treatment options vary a great deal, from daily day-care options to intensive evening programmers. We can help you to decide on the best option for you. Most patients will receive a psychiatric consultation and ongoing psychiatric reviews and care. They will receive intensive therapy and depending on need and the programme, weekly consultations with nursing are available as are weekly consultations with nutritionists. We help patients decide on the best programme for them.

One to one counselling for alcohol addiction

We can recommend counsellors that specialize in eating disorders all over the country. Patients will often meet with a counsellor once or twice a week and will also have weekly or fortnightly sessions with a nutritionist. We can put you in touch with people who can help today.
